Drive Change: A Community Vehicle Initiative 1
We are thrilled to announce the purchase of a Citroen GRAND C4 PICASSO 7-seater vehicle for our 'Community Vehicle Initiatives' project, generously funded by the Beatrice Laing Family Trust and the Eveson Trust. This fully accessible vehicle is designed with advanced safety features to ensure a comfortable and secure journey for all participants. It is being used to transport our participants to various venues for a wide range of activities. Our dedicated and experienced staff are committed to providing safe and reliable transportation for everyone involved.
Drive Change: A Community Vehicle Initiative 2
Exciting News! We’re thrilled to announce that we've been awarded a medium grant comprising £31,515 from the Inclusive Communities Fund— a £9 million initiative inspired by the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games.
Our project centres around physical activity and sport, mental health, and well-being, and aims to bridge the transportation gap. To achieve this, we have purchased a new Vauxhall Combo-e Life XL Design 7-seater electric vehicle. This vehicle transports our participants in a safe and secure environment to their daytime activity venues, fostering interaction, reducing isolation, and building a sense of belonging among participants and their communities.
Pantomime Trip for Options for Life Participants
The secured funding will empower Options for Life to embark on the captivating initiative of organising “The Pantomime Trip for Options for Life Participants”, ensuring a memorable and inclusive experience for the participants. The primary objective of this project is to foster social inclusion, cultural engagement, and entertainment for an often underserved group within our community. The project seeks to break down barriers by providing a unique opportunity for individuals with learning disabilities to engage in a joyous and immersive theatrical experience. The outcomes include social integration, increased confidence, and a sense of belonging.
Harmonious Connections: Empowering Participants with Profound and Multiple Learning Disabilities Through Touch-Free Music Creation
We secured grants from two funders, including The Roger & Douglas Turner Charitable Trust, to procure the Soundbeam 6 Group Kit, a specialised touch-free music-making technology for participants with profound and multiple learning disabilities. The kit enables our participants with learning disabilities to actively engage in music education and experience the joy of creating music through their movements. Professional musician Jobe Sullivan is conducting customised music sessions, introducing participants to the technology and fostering their music creation skills.
Critical Cooling Solutions at Acorn Lodge Hub
We received a grant of £5,000 from the Saintbury Trust to install air conditioning units in the sensory room, conservatory and the office of the Acorn Lodge to create a safe and supportive environment for participants with PMLD. The primary goal is to reduce the likelihood of heat-triggered seizure activity in these individuals. We have already purchased and installed the units, contributing to the overall well-being and comfort of the targeted population.
Beyond Boundaries: Options for Life Football Initiative
We are delighted to have been awarded £1,000 for our ‘Beyond Boundaries: Options for Life Football Initiative’ from the Barclays Community Football Fund, delivered in partnership with Sported. Through the utilisation of items of clothing- tracksuits, hats and specialised equipment, Forza Mini Flat Disc Markers, and the RapidFire Handheld Football Rebounder, the project will enhance physical well-being, foster social integration, develop football skills, and contribute to the emotional well-being of our participants.
The Barclays Community Football Fund offers grants, training and support resources to help reduce inequalities in football participation. The fund supports local organisations (like ours) supporting young people from under-represented groups to start or keep playing! Sported is a charity that delivers expertise, resources, and vital support to clubs and groups that use sports and physical activity to make a positive impact on young people – and on our communities – throughout the UK.
Therapeutic Art Project for Acorn Lodge Participants
We received a grant of £500 from the Arnold Clark Community Fund for our Therapeutic Art Project for Acorn Lodge participants. Thank you. The fund will be used to facilitate a six-week therapeutic art project at our Acorn Lodge hub, catering specifically to participants with profound and multiple learning disabilities. We will engage a specialist art worker to conduct one session per week, accommodating 4-5 participants in the session. Through these sessions, participants will have the opportunity to develop their cognitive skills, enhance their self-awareness, and improve their social interaction abilities.
