Last week and this week at Options for Life have been filled with creativity, celebration, and a touch of Irish charm as we embraced the spirit of St. Patrick’s Day and the joys of spring. From art sessions to gardening, baking to beauty treatments, our participants have been busy exploring their passions and learning new skills. Here’s a glimpse into the vibrant activities that made this week so special.
Art and Creativity Take Centre Stage
Liam kicked off the week with a burst of creativity in our art session. He started by creating a mood board filled with his likes and interests, which inspired him to paint a beautiful portrait of his friend Jasmine. Meanwhile, over at Langley Library, our friendship group had a lovely craft session making Mother’s Day cards. The joy and pride on their faces as they created something special for their loved ones was truly heartwarming.
On Monday, our art session took an Irish twist as we celebrated St. Patrick’s Day. Participants explored Irish culture through art and music, creating pieces inspired by St. Patrick and the vibrant traditions of Ireland.
Celebrating St. Patrick’s Day in Style
St. Patrick’s Day was a highlight of the week, and we celebrated in true Acorn Lodge fashion! The day was packed with Irish-themed activities, including Irish baking, a fun “find the gold” chocolate coin game, face painting, and even some Irish dancing. For lunch, everyone enjoyed a hearty Irish stew, bringing a taste of Ireland to our table. Sean was especially in the festive spirit, celebrating St. Patrick’s Day with enthusiasm and joy.
Gardening and Growth
Our gardening team has been hard at work preparing for the growing season. Sean took charge of turning over the horse manure in the raised beds, a crucial step in conditioning the soil with nutrients and friendly microbes to ensure our veggies grow strong and healthy. Meanwhile, Matthew planted the first tomato and courgette seeds of the year. The trays are now safely in the greenhouse, covered and waiting for the sun to work its magic. Fingers crossed for a bountiful harvest!
Kitchen Crew Delights with Cottage Pie
Our kitchen crew showcased their culinary skills this week, putting everything they’ve learned over the past few weeks into practice. The result? A delicious cottage pie that was enjoyed by all for lunch. It’s always a joy to see our participants grow in confidence and ability in the kitchen.

Anthony's Visit to The National Memorial Arboretum in Burton-on-Trent
Anthony enjoyed his visit to the Arboretum. He was excited about the war memorial photos and sculptures and took several photos.
Achievements and Relaxation
We’re incredibly proud of Ravi and Jonathan, who received a certificate this week in recognition of her hard work and dedication in the kitchen. Well done, Ravi and Jonathan!
Lorna had a relaxing start to her day with a visit to the beauty room, where her nails were cleaned, painted, and finished with a soothing hand massage. She then enjoyed a friendly game of Ludo and completed a jigsaw puzzle, ending her morning with a smile.
Happy Birthday to Lorna
Lorna celebrated her birthday with all her friends at Oak Green Lodge. She brought a cake to celebrate her special day. Everyone loved the cake!
Looking Ahead
As we wrap up the eventful weeks, we’re filled with gratitude for the laughter, learning, and connections that make Options for Life such a special place. From art and gardening to celebrations and relaxation, every moment is a reminder of the importance of community, creativity, and growth.
Stay tuned for more updates as we continue to explore new activities, celebrate milestones, and enjoy the simple joys of life together.
