Introduction
At Options for Life, we are filled with immense gratitude and joy as we extend our heartfelt appreciation to Solvay Solutions UK Ltd for their incredibly kind and generous donation to our Sensory Garden project at Acorn Lodge hub. This support is a testament to the true spirit of community and compassion, and it will undoubtedly make a significant difference in the lives of our participants who have Profound and Multiple Learning Disabilities (PMLD). With the support of Victoria and her colleagues at Solvay, we are one step closer to creating a nurturing and engaging space that will have a lasting positive impact on our community.
Project Proposal
The project ‘Improvement to a Sensory Garden’ involves a garden at our Acorn Lodge hub, which will be transformed into an improved sensory garden by planting sensory plants and installing objects and equipment. In this project, we plan to further improve the garden by adding a basket swing that can be used by more able mobile participants and by adding finishing touches to give an interactive sensory experience. A total of twenty-four PMLD participants will benefit from the project. Many of our participants suffer from loss of certain senses. Allowing them to interact freely and naturally can help boost these senses by providing access to nature, sunlight and sensory objects in the sensory garden. Participants often refrain from walking. Walking, gardening and moving around the garden can greatly boost physical activity. It improves cardiorespiratory fitness and overall physical strength. Aggressive behaviour and agitation can negatively impact the mental health of people with learning disabilities. Spending some time in the garden will significantly reduce negative behaviour.
Creating a Nurturing Environment
Options for Life is dedicated to providing inclusive services to our participants, and our Sensory Garden project is a vital part of this commitment. Our vision is to give people with learning disabilities and/or autism choice and control over their lives. The Sensory Garden will be a sanctuary for individuals with diverse needs, offering them a place of tranquility and connection with nature.
The Power of Partnership
The success of the Sensory Garden project would not have been possible without the partnership and dedication of Solvay Solutions UK Ltd. Their support goes beyond financial contribution; it reflects their genuine commitment to making a positive impact in our community. Their generosity has opened doors for us to create a space that will foster growth, independence, and joy for those we serve.
Inspiring Generosity
Victoria and her colleagues at Solvay have proven to be more than just donors; they are true inspirations. Their dedication to creating inclusive spaces and uplifting the lives of others sets a remarkable example for other organisations. It serves as a reminder that businesses can be powerful agents of positive change when they invest in the well-being of the communities they operate in.
Transforming Lives
The Sensory Garden project will be more than just a collection of plants and sensory elements; it will be a place of transformation. Participants at Acorn Lodge hub will have the opportunity to explore and experience the world through their senses, engaging in activities that promote their physical, cognitive, and emotional development. The garden will be an invaluable asset in our efforts to empower our community members and enhance their overall quality of life.
A Heartfelt Thank You
As we near the realisation of our Sensory Garden project, we cannot express enough how grateful we are to Solvay Solutions UK Ltd for their invaluable support. Their contribution will have a lasting impact on the lives of our participants, fostering a sense of belonging and creating memories that will be cherished for years to come.
